The Hare and the Tortoise
A fable by Aesop
One day, the Hare made fun of the Tortoise because he walked very slowly.
“Do you ever get anywhere?” the Hare asked, laughing.
“Yes,” said the Tortoise. “I do. I can race you and show you.”
The Hare thought this was very funny, but he agreed to race. The Fox agreed to be the judge and started the race.
The Hare ran very fast and soon was far ahead of the Tortoise. He felt very confident, so he stopped and decided to rest.
“I have plenty of time,” he said.
The Hare lay down next to the road and fell asleep.
The Tortoise kept walking slowly, step by step. He did not stop. After some time, he passed the Hare, who was sleeping.
When the Hare woke up, the Tortoise was close to the finish line. The Hare ran as fast as he could, but he was too late.
The Tortoise reached the finish first and won the race.
Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.
